Why should you cycle to work?

Busy? Are you fed up with traffic? Are you fed up with looking for a parking spot? Have you considered riding your bike to work? The truth is that you don’t need a fancy bike to start commuting by bike. You will require a bicycle that is both suitable and comfy for you. Many people never even attempt to ride their existing bike to work because they believe it is not the proper bike for them.

Bicycling to work is beneficial to your health. While the number of calories burnt on a ride varies depending on the individual, their speed, and the topography, cycling burns around the same amount of calories as jogging while having far fewer detrimental effects on the joints. Cycling boosts energy, builds muscle, and improves coordination while improving cardio-vascular and aerobic fitness. It’s almost like cheating to incorporate the health benefits of riding into your regular commute.

Simply put, riding a bike to work is enjoyable. Many people reminisce fondly about their childhood recollections of riding their bikes around the neighborhood, wishing they could still be as carefree in the midst of the stresses of adulthood. Biking to work allows you to incorporate that simple sense of joy into your everyday routine. While riding, take in your environment, listen to the birds, and wave to passing riders. You’ll find yourself wishing your commute was longer sooner rather than later.

If you take public transportation, you probably don’t have a choice; if you drive, you’re undoubtedly used to it, but odds are you make the same trip every day. By cycling to work, you allow yourself to take an alternative route and explore the area around you. You might come to a new beautiful location or even a shortcut. When you travel by bike, you have considerably more opportunities to stop and take photos, turn around and look back, or even disappear up a side street.

For most children, the first time they remove their training wheels and ride their bicycle down the road feels like a liberation. It is a pivotal time in the lives of many happy children. Then comes adolescence, and the car comes to symbolize a new sense of liberation. However, after a few years and far too many hours spent stuck in traffic or circling a city block seeking for parking, the automobile starts to seem like a prison.

Remove the shackles and reclaim your sense of freedom. Explore the city at your own pace, take a different route to work, stop for coffee on the way, and see a new neighborhood on the way home. Cycling opens up new perspectives on your city, both literally and metaphorically. It’s your neighborhood; go live there!

The idea that biking to work is inconvenient is one of the most widespread myths. But what’s more inconvenient than spending 10 minutes every morning looking for parking or being trapped in a roadblock along the way? Finding parking on your bike to work is as simple as seeing the nearest pole, locking up, and walking away.

Bike commuting is as fast as or faster than driving for most urban commutes since cyclists do not get trapped in traffic and are not subject to the regular transit delays of driving or public transportation. Panniers and cycling bags make transporting work items simple, and many employers are also providing safe bike parking, showers, and other amenities to make cycling to work even more convenient.

Taking the bus reduces your carbon footprint by more than half. However, if you want to minimize your emissions even more, consider riding a bicycle. Convinced? Great! But wait first. Don’t get caught up in the idea that you need the most up-to-date bicycle available. Give it a try if you already own a bicycle, whether it’s a mountain bike, a road bike, or a hybrid. Don’t spend a lot of money on something new until you’ve decided whether or not biking to work is right for you. One of the best aspects of biking to work is that the more you do it, the better shape you’ll be in. You can start even if you don’t consider yourself a “fit” person. And whatever you do, please wear a helmet!

A bike commute of about 20 kilometers is ideal. It’s a short journey, which will cut down on the quantity of sweat you produce and the amount of time it takes you to get to work. Furthermore, it is not so short that you barely begin biking before you arrive. Some commuters simply have to go a mile, while others choose to travel 40 kilometers every day. The answer is contingent on you and your situation.

So you’ll be riding your bike to work, but you won’t be able to leave it parked on the street. There are a few bicycle storage alternatives to keep your bike safe and secure. One option is to secure it to a pole or other permanent structure outside. You might also inquire with your company about whether or if there is a location within your workplace where you can park your bike while you work. Another option is to look for a nearby parking facility or bike shop where you can leave your bike during the day. Alternatively, get a foldie and tuck it beneath your desk.

Nobody wants to spend their entire day at work smelling and looking like they just got out of a sauna. If your workplace has a shower available for employees, this is a simple solution. Ride as hard as you want, then when you arrive to work, take a brief shower to get rid of the sweat. If you don’t have access to a shower, you can limit the quantity of sweat you produce by wearing in a way that prevents excessive sweating. You should also bring a wash rag and a change of clothes to work. This way, when you get to work, you’ll be prepared.

Cycling to work may be a significant step for you, so see if you can ease into it gradually. Even if you only travel a portion of the distance on the first day and take the train for a portion of the journey, you will have accomplished something fantastic.

You can pedal to the next station and catch the train the following time, and before you know it, you’ll have cycled all the way from home to work. Consider that you may simply wish to bike once a week at first, and then gradually increase your cycling outings. Again, that’s a fantastic accomplishment that you can build on over time if you so desire.
