Have you heard the familiar sound? You’re alone in the boardroom in the middle of the morning. A few hours have passed since you had breakfast. Lunch is a long way from now. You try hard to pay attention, but your stomach is starting to distract you.
It can in fact, begin to distract the entire meeting. It can often be loud enough for the whole meeting to hear when a stomach starts growling! Has your stomach ever begun to growl so loud that it appeared that it wanted to ask the teacher a question? Maybe they wanted to inquire, “When is lunch?” ”
What’s happening? You probably knew you were getting hungry already. Do you still need your stomach with groans and odd noises to chime in? Most definitely not! Then why are they doing that? No reason to be ashamed. From time to time, everybody’s stomach growls, gurgles, grumbles or rumbles. It’s just a nice reminder to keep you in tip-top shape that your body is still working.
The rumbling and grumbling you hear comes from the stomach and the small intestine, but it can sound like a growling coming from the throat. And it happens at all kinds of moments, not just when you’re starving!
There are reasons why stomach growling happens. It may be to assist with digestion. The body releases enzymes as food enters the small intestine to help break down the food and to promote the absorption of nutrients. Peristalsis is a sequence of muscle contractions similar to waves that take place in the digestive tract to pass the food. These movements, involving the passage of gas and partially digested foods, lead to borborygmi’s growling and rumbling sounds.
Even if no food was eaten in the previous hours, the peristalsis process would be performed daily by the body. In order to prepare for food consumption, the stomach and intestines may also release acid and enzymes. The noises may last for up to 20 minutes at a time and may recur until food is consumed every hour. Stomach growling may often be related to an underlying medical condition, especially if other symptoms such as discomfort, constipation or diarrhea that accompany it.
Although a part of normal digestion is stomach growling, there are occasions when rumbling noises can be a source of embarrassment. Here are several natural remedies to avoid growling in the stomach.
- Stay calm
During such stressful conditions, such as work conferences, presentations, and exams, stomach growling may be more noticeable. This is because, during times of anxiety, gut activity increases, irrespective of whether the stomach is full or empty. It is also understood that being stressed slows down digestion and leads to signs of indigestion, including heartburn and stomach noises. By meditating, doing deep breathing exercises, and using progressive muscle relaxation strategies people can minimize anxiety and stress levels.
2. Drink water
Drinking a glass of water can be an effective solution to the growling of the stomach, particularly if anything can not be eaten at the time. The digestive process is supported by water while also filling the stomach. All of these acts help keep the stomach from growling or at least muffling the sound of it. Water should be sipped steadily during the day for better performance. In a short time, eating large quantities will lead to gurgling sounds from the stomach.
3. Eat something
Growling noises can indicate that it is time to eat again once the stomach has been empty for a while. Eating a small meal or snack will quell the sounds momentarily. Getting food in the stomach also decreases the amount of growling in the stomach. It could be a sign that more frequent meals are needed if stomach growling occurs regularly or occurs at the same time every day. In order to reduce hunger and stomach noises, some people may choose to eat 4 to 6 small meals a day instead of the usual 3 big meals.
4. Limit sugar, alcohol, and acidic foods
Especially troublesome are carbohydrates, such as fructose and sorbitol. Stomach growling is also known to trigger acidic foods, including citrus fruits and coffee. The digestive tract is irritated by alcohol and can create noise in the stomach. It also boosts the production of acid and induces inflammation in the stomach lining. Large alcohol doses can slow gastric emptying and cause pain in the stomach.
5. Avoid food and drink that cause gas
Some foods and drinks contain more gas than others. If stomach growling is triggered by large quantities of gas passing through the digestive tract, then the issue of borborygmi can be solved by avoiding these foods and beverages.
